From Google search to the movie suggestions you receive on Netflix, from the ads you see on YouTube to your washing machine selecting how much water it needs – AI is everywhere.
Artificial Intelligence has changed how we do things. Many things that we take for granted now, what used to be manually done in the past – are AI powered.
Example of AI in your daily life
Earlier, if your washing machine wasn’t working, you would call a technician, who would visit your home, check the machine and determine the problem. Then he would go back to his service centre, place an order for a spare part (which would even take a few weeks) and then repair it.
That’s not the case any more! Today you have AI-powered smart diagnosis. You connect your washing machine to your home wi-fi. Run the smart diagnosis app on your mobile. It checks and tells you what the problem is, and also informs the company about the particular unit’s ID and part number that needs repair. The technician comes with the part and fixes it. At times, it may just be an adjustment you can make it yourself with no technician needed. Your app gives you the necessary instruction and you fix it yourself! Great isn’t it? That’s the power of AI.
Need for Software Professionals to Upskill
With such a penetration of AI in our daily lives, it is natural that the requirement of AI engineers is going to increase multifold in the coming years. While many leading colleges have introduced formal BTech courses in AI or Computer Science with AI specialisation, what about the existing working professionals who have not yet learnt AI? Will they become obsolete? The answer is no.
Every working professional should ensure that they upskill regularly. Old technologies make way for new and the ones that learn quickly will survive in the industry. And guess what, you can learn AI for free!
